The Ream Family- Lifestyle Session

Do you ever meet people that are just so real and honest that it’s refreshing? That’s how we felt about The Ream Family! We met Brandon, Christine and their little one Carson through Mike & Nicole Zins. Christine is actually Mike’s sister! We were so thrilled when they asked us to do a Lifestyle Session with them and were excited to get to know them better! It was such fun to spend time with them and we felt like we had been friends with them for a long time! That’s the kind of people this sweet little family is.

So we headed down to The Biltmore area and spent a couple hours with them. Their little guy, Carson, was almost 1 at the time of this shoot and just such a doll! He wasn’t quite walking yet, but you could definitely tell that he had places to go for sure! He’s getting so close to being mobile on his own and it won’t be long until he is. We had such a great time getting to know these three. They are an amazing family who we actually have a lot in common with! We hope to be able to spend more time with them in the future.

Check ‘em out. We think they’re pretty cool…

The Kennedy Family – Lifestyle Session

So when Lincoln Kennedy, the father of this family, stepped out of the big white Escalade, I knew that I better be on my “A” game lest I be pounded a good one. Little did I know this mountain of a man, was an endearing and gentle father and husband. With three boys, Thom, Tavon, and Tye, and his wife Patricia in tow we made the Tempe Arts Center our backdrop and enjoyed sweated out a July Phoenix morning.

The two younger boys were….well…boys, and were little hams in front of the camera. It was adorable to see them snuggle up to their bigger brother Thom and they were especially clingy when Thom broke out the tropical flavored Skittles! It was like little 19 month old Tye’s kryptonite during a moment of breakdown.

We captured them together as a united family, with snacks and all, some of the boys together, and then also some great images of Lincoln and Patricia as the smokin hot couple they are! Hopefully you get a sense of the vibrance and life behind this family…from tiny Tye to the big heart of Lincoln, they were a gem to work with!

The Buxton Kids- Lifestyle Session

What a fun bunch! These little kids were a lot of fun to spend some time with one afternoon a couple of weeks back. It was one of those days where no one knew exactly for sure how the kids would do because it was HOT outside! Truly, super hot. And with kids, it can be hard to keep them happy for long and it can be even harder when it’s super hot out. But these sweet siblings and one cousin were just the greatest! It almost seemed like the heat didn’t even phase them! Not only did the kids seem like they were up for anything, but so were their parents. Since it was so hot outside, Melissa (who is mom & step-mom to three of them) was completely up for allowing them to run through a nearby splash pad that looked oh-so-inviting to the kiddos! So after we completed the shoot, we made sure to stick around to capture them running through and playing in the splash pad- fully clothed! It was so much fun to watch the small ones be so adventurous! They loved the water and we had a lot of fun and laughs as their parents just let them romp through the water. It was a great time.

The Rast Family- Lifestyle Session

This photo shoot was bittersweet for us. Sweet in the sense that we love hanging out and spending time with this amazing family. Bitter because half of them are moving to Texas this month! When Crystal and Gaye Lynn contacted me about having their family photographed all together, it was because Gaye Lynn, her husband Carey and their three kids, Payson, Parker and Paige are all being transfered to Texas this month and they wanted to do a session together before they left Arizona. What a great idea! So Woody, Crystal and their daughter Tanna and Woody and Carey’s mom all came to be apart of the photo session as well. It was so much fun hanging with this entire family.

We headed down to a little ghost town near Lost Dutchman’s Park which is close to the Superstition Mountains. They had requested that we capture scenic Arizona since they will be leaving and this was the greatest little spot! It was such a fun afternoon, which we were expecting to be hot out- but it was surprisingly overcast and not unbearable at all! It was a great place for all the kids to run around and play, and it was right next to the mountains which was very cool. It was such a gorgeous afternoon!

We are always sad to see clients and friends move away- we will miss you Rast Family! The good news is that we will be in Texas within the year so this isn’t the last you’ll be seeing of them!

The Murray’s- Lifestyle Session

We love when clients come back to use us time and time again! So when Aimee asked us to photograph her kids again the next time they were in town, we were thrilled! Last time they were in Arizona, we photographed their whole family. Due to work, Aimee’s husband Ben had to hang back in Texas, where they are living, and so Aimee came out to visit her family with her two fantastic kids. Elyse and Alton are always fun to spend time with and to photograph. They have a lot of energy, like most kids do their age, and they are curious about so much! But it’s so sweet to see this brother/sister duo get along as well as they do- even though I’m sure they have their moments- it was really fun to see they dynamic between brother and sister. We spent the afternoon with them at The Hyatt Resort in Scottsdale, which has a ton of cool places for kids (or anyone!) to explore. It was so great to see them again and we can’t wait until their next photo shoot- which is already on the calendar!

The Gonzalez’s- Lifestyle Session

We were so pleased to meet and spend an afternoon with this simply adorable and fantastic family! Chris, Leslie and their three adorable kiddos were an absolute blast to photograph. We met this family through Leslie’s sister, who surprised them with a session with us this past holiday season. After chatting over busy schedules for a little bit, we were able to successfully nail down a date and hang with this little family.

We spent the afternoon in Downtown Tempe, which fit all of them perfectly. Ducking into alley ways, stairwells, and behind buildings, there was no end to locations that we could have used with them. They all looked amazing no matter what we asked them to do!

We learned so much about them too. Chris is the Lead Pastor at Missio Dei Communities and it was such a thrill to hear about all that is happening at this church! It was clear to us that they are passionate about Jesus, others, their friends and family and it was encouraging to see and hear the same things echoed from the mouths of their darling children. What a great encouraging afternoon it was and we enjoyed it so much!

If you had the chance to hang with this fantastic five, we know you’d agree! They are such a joy!

The Pikulas- Lifestyle Session

Look at these adorable faces!

Their mother, Becca, contacted us to photograph her four incredible kids as she was wanting some great pictures of them for this years Mother’s Day. She had expressed that she wanted a lot of color in the pictures and that she wanted their true personalities captured. And it definitely wasn’t hard to do! It was apparent that each one of these kiddos is incredibly different from the next, each of them bringing a certain element of ’sunshine’ into their family. They are beautiful children who worked with us so well! The back drops we selected for them ended up being perfect- allowing exactly what she wanted- color and personality to shine through! We had such a great time spending the afternoon with this family.

We know you’ll love them too…

The Tamborskis- Lifestyle Session

Check out this fantastic family! We tried for months to get them on our calendar; Scott contacted us back in September of 2009 wanting family pictures taken and we emailed back and forth with numerous dates. But coordinating schedules for this big family proved to be a challenge, and Scott decided that we would aim to take pictures after the holidays at some point. We were thrilled when he contacted us and that we were able to land a date that worked for all of us!

Scott and Donna have been married for almost two years and have five kids between the two of them. It was such a unique blend of people and it was obvious that this family likes to have fun together! We headed to Downtown Phoenix for the afternoon and headed out on foot to find some unusual spots. We headed into a park and under a bridge that we never would have seen had we not decided to walk around for a bit. We scoured the area for several more locations, chatting, laughing and joking!

This big family was such a blessing to work with and we had a great time. So without further ado…

The Smiths – Lifestyle Session

Sometimes, as a photog, you have a plan in your head before the particular session you’re about to shoot starts. There are a few times out of a hundred when it actually happens just like you planned.

Most of the time it doesn’t.

That’s not to say that it goes awry or turns out awful most of the time. I’m just saying, even if plans change and you find a different location that turns out to be magic, or a funny unplanned circumstance during the shoot helps the people you’re capturing come alive, or the light hits just perfectly and you create the image of your career….as a photographer, you just gotta be on your toes! Be ready for the inevitable unplanned.

That’s part of what makes this art SO FUN. You never really know what you’re gonna get.

Well, needless to say with the intro, we had to think quick on our feet when we met up with the Smith family for a quick little lifestyle sesh. The Smith’s live out in Maricopa so we drove out to meet them in their stompin grounds. I had a plan in mind to use a particular old abandoned barn and was pretty excited about it too.

Well….come to find out the barn had been completely torn down! So we had to make a super quick location decision out in the middle of the Arizona desert. Luckily, we spotted a tiny and nicely forsaken farmhouse that had been standing all alone for what looked like a long time. It ended up being perfect.

And the Smiths were troopers through it all. Even traipsing through a ton of weeds and junk to get to the house with their two little darling girls, Samantha & Katelyn. It was well worth the change in plans and the walk. The girls played in the gorgeous, yet super windy, morning and we snapped off some sweet moments together.

So remember to stay on your toes and be prepared for the changes…you never know the goodness that you might get!

Sara & Lupe – Lifestyle Session

One of the most important aspects of being photographers is setting an encouraging atmosphere where the people in front of the camera can come alive. Where they can forget about the act of “taking a portrait” and simply enjoy the moment with the loved ones that they are with and also with us. To create a space where our clients can breathe out. Feel free to be genuinely and deeply themselves.

Naturally, when this all happens, the people that we are shooting are captured truly as they are. Their spirit shines through the lens and the resulting images actually tell a bit about who they are inside.

This is what we strive for everytime.

Sara & and her mother Lupe are a fantastic example of this simple phenomenon. These two have an incredible bond and spend a ton of their time together, and Sara even told us that they at least talked on the phone every day. So when Sara initially contacted us about a lifestyle session with her mom, Jess and I did some quick and friendly research into what they love to do together.

Sara explained to us that her and Lupe love to shop together (go figure right!?), attend musicals together, taste different wines, catch the latest flicks in the theaters, run marathons, and simply just laugh a ton. Well the wine idea sent us dreaming into this concept of these two beautiful and fun-loving ladies in this wonderful grove of pecan trees, dressed to the nines, and surrounded by books, a Victorian-esque armchair and a bottle of red to top it off! Lets just say it worked beautifully. The books were just a last minute idea before our shoot, and come to find out, both Sara & Lupe absolutely love to read!

The four of us spent an hour and a half laughing in the trees, and Sara & Lupe were some of the funnest clients we’ve ever had. Not to mention, they KILLED it in the camera. Check out that burner of an image of Sara below…easy Sara.

Thank you ladies for a terrific evening. It was grand!
